It’s been all but scientifically proven that music sounds a million times better when played through a high-quality sound system. It doesn’t even matter what genre you listen to.
But not every car’s audio is built the same. So, if you wanna know which new cars will make your T-Swizzle and your Jimmy Barnes simply “hit different”, read on…
Purchasing a vehicle from a premium manufacturer usually means you’re paying a premium price and getting premium equipment. Take the range-topping Audi Q7 55 TFSI SUV, for example, which starts from $123,900 and features luxurious items like ambient interior lighting, Matrix LED headlights and a huge panoramic sunroof.
Then, there’s the 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen 3D sound system. It’s sublimely crisp and competent, even nearing maximum volume. We dare you to find any song that doesn’t sound good in this car. And no, Achy Breaky Heart by Billy Ray Cyrus doesn’t count.
If you thought all this quirky small-SUV served was looks, think again.
The Japanese carmaker's flagship Juke Ti not only looks wicked inside and out, but it comes with an eight-speaker Bose Personal Plus audio system, which features ‘UltraNearfield’ speakers built into the driver and passenger head restraints.
Not only do the high-mounted speakers look futuristically cool, but it’s almost like you’re wearing headphones – or at least the headrests are – while crisp tunes flow directly into your eardrums.
Admittedly, a Rolls is fairly out of reach for most of us. Even the “entry-level” Ghost costs anywhere from $628,000, depending on how many options you choose. But if you ever get the chance to ride in one (let alone buy your very own) you’ll discover that it’s a music lover’s dream for two reasons.
First, the Ghost is packed with more than 100kg of acoustic sound deadening and the cabin is designed in a way that only a tiny amount of road noise can enter the cabin – and that’s only because when they made it too quiet, people were feeling sick and disoriented due to its silent ride during pre-production testing!
Anywho, the Ghost also comes with an audio system that comprises 16 loudspeakers (plus 2 Exciters in the headliner) and an 18-channel amplifier. In other words, it’s brilliant.

Just a few years ago, Volkswagen offered the special edition Polo Beats, a city hatch equipped with a fancy beats by dre sound system. And, while the Polo Beats was eventually phased out, the German car-maker now offers a similar option in its pumped-up T-Roc SUV.
Already equipped with a large, intuitive touch-screen, buyers can opt for the $2000 Sound & Style Package, which adds a thumping 300-watt premium beats sound system, among other items.

Another quirky little SUV, the top-spec Ford Puma will be another attractive choice for music lovers.
It too comes with its fair share of smart tech, including a 12-inch driver’s instrument cluster and an 8.0-inch central touch-screen. And, for a little more than $35,000 plus on-road costs, the flagship Puma ST-Line V comes standard with a Bang & Olufsen sound system.
It might not be as raucous as Audi’s B&O set-up, however, the Puma’s 10-speaker system is backed up by a factory-fitted subwoofer, allowing for plenty of doof-doof.
