Five stars for Falcon
New Ford Falcon awarded five star rating for crash safetyUnconfirmed reports suggest that Ford's FG Falcon has scored five stars in local ANCAP crash-safety testing. ANCAP (the Australian New Car Assessment Program) is yet to publish the results on its website.
If correct, the Falcon's five-star rating is a first for a locally manufactured car, although Holden will be antsy for ANCAP to re-test the VE Commodore, which, since it's original test, has been upgraded with additional passive safety features as standard. Commodore has been fitted as standard with side curtain airbags since just before the Falcon's launch (more here).
It's been rumoured for some time that the Falcon would score five stars, but ANCAP is not releasing the information officially until the end of this month (more here).
The five-star rating matches the Falcon with top luxury cars such as the Mercedes C-Class and puts it ahead of local rivals including the Holden VE Commodore and Toyota Camry and Aurion, which all achieved a four-star rating, News Limited newspapers reported on Monday.
The tests include frontal and side impact collisions and take into account safety features including airbags, electronic stability control and seat belt warnings for every passenger space.
