Porsche has confirmed it will reveal a new flagship for the 2024 Porsche Panamera range on March 11.
It has also released a shadowy teaser image of the model – which is expected to be called the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT – that previews its modified body and wild new aero kit.
No more details have been revealed other than Porsche claiming the new EV will be the “most dynamic Taycan of all time”.
A lightly disguised prototype of the new flagship battery-powered sedan has already set a new record (7min7sec) lap time at the Nurburgring for a production EV.
That extremely rapid time came tantalisingly close to pipping the outright fastest EV lap of the ’Ring that is currently held by the 1408kW Rimac Nevera hypercar, which clocked a 7min5sec time around the notoriously challenging 20.6km road course.
The Taycan Turbo GT hot lap places it 28sec quicker than the previous time set by the 760kW Tesla Model S Plaid, and 26sec ahead of the Porsche Taycan Turbo S that set its benchmark time with ‘only’ a 560kW dual-motor powertrain.
This has led to suggestions that the still-to-be-confirmed Taycan Turbo GT will generate epic power from its new triple- or quad-motor powertrain.
Expect comfortably more than 750kW and for it to hurtle to the horizon from 0-100km/h in a fraction more than 2.0 seconds.
Those earlier pics of the disguised Taycan showed us its huge rear wing, revised front bumper, large front splitter and fresh rear air intake, while the redesigned headlights are expected to be included across the new Taycan range.
Also identified on the fastest-ever production EV to lap the Nurburgring was a set of optional lightweight 21-inch wheels and stickier Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres that will be offered on the new Turbo GT.
Stay tuned as more details and teasers are expected ahead of the March 11 reveal.
