Toyota Australia has expanded its 2025 Toyota Tundra range, with a new Platinum trim boasting exterior tweaks and a more luxurious cabin.
Priced $17,000 above the Limited model grade, the new Toyota Tundra Platinum gets a different chrome-framed mesh grille, smoked chrome window trim and side mouldings, a black tailgate handle, black 20-inch alloy wheels and LED lighting for the rear bed.
Within, there’s blue and black 10-way-adjustable front seats with heating and ventilation, memory settings and massage function, while in the second row the two outboard seats are now both heated and ventilated.
The Platinum also bags a power-adjust steering column, heated steering wheel, a large 10.9-inch colour head-up display, ambient lighting and satin chrome door handles.
Carrying over from the base Tundra Limited is a large 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, a 14.0-inch infotainment system that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a punchy 12-speaker JBL sound system.
Under the bonnet both trucks are powered by an ‘i-FORCE MAX’ hybrid with a twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre petrol V6. In isolation it produces 290kW and 649Nm, while an electric motor kicks in a further 36kW and 250Nm.
Total power is 326kW and 790Nm which, combined with all-wheel drive and a 10-speed automatic transmission, is sufficient for the big Toyota ute to tow up to 4500kg (with a 70mm tow ball).
With just 223 confirmed deliveries in the first three month of 2025, the Tundra trails the likes of the Ford F-150 (454), the stronger selling Ram 1500 (647), and the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (627).
Not helping matters is the price premium charged for the Toyota Tundra Platinum, which sees it sit $13,040 above the more powerful (403kW) but less torquey (707Nm) Ram 1500 Limited.
