Flagship Genesis G90 revealed

Luxurious G90 limo emerges in Korea, ready to take on the BMW 7 Series and Mercedes-Benz S-Class

Genesis has pulled the drapes off the all-new 2022 Genesis G90 limousine that will be introduced in its home market of South Korea early next year and see the brand tackle the latest Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7 Series.

As with the first-generation model that's been on sale overseas since 2015, there are currently no plans to bring the new G90 to Australia.

Picking up where the latest Genesis G80 left off, the stretched-wheelbase G90 is claimed to be "the most elegant interpretation of the brand's design philosophy of Athletic Elegance yet".

It features Genesis' trademark slimline dual LED headlights and 'Crest' shield grille that's said to provide for a "layered architecture" finish and incorporates two 'G-matrix' patterns for an extra 3D effect.

Giving it a smoother, sleeker front-end, there's a clamshell bonnet that eliminates panel gaps.

A minimal approach to surfacing is reflected along the flanks of the G90 that subtly features a rising belt line. The side detailing also includes angular glass and a second tapering line extending to the rear boot lid.

At the back there's the usual light bar that interlinks the tail-lights. Unusually, there's an additional wraparound LED light strip that sits below.

Flush door handles, a complex 20-inch wheel design and an engraved bonnet badge complete the exterior styling details.

Like its rivals, the G90 will also be offered with a long wheelbase that adds an extra 190mm between the two axles.

Genesis has not yet revealed what lies within but the cabin is expected to be dominated by two large screens, a two-spoke steering wheel and high-grade materials that wouldn't look out of place in a Bentley.

Under the bonnet, expect to find the Hyundai Group's twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre V6 that should push out 280kW and 550Nm of torque.

There's no word on whether a pure-electric version is in the pipeline, but the long-range nature of luxury limos could make it an ideal candidate for the Korean car-maker's hydrogen fuel-cell technology.
