The mob who prepared the Toyota HiLux that transported the Top Gear crew to the Magnetic North Pole three years ago have done it again.
In another PR triumph for Toyota, Icelandic firm Arctic Trucks has lent its support to a team of vulcanologists monitoring Eyjafallajökull, the unpronounceable volcano that erupted last week. Conveniently and cost-effectively, the volcano, Arctic Trucks and the vulcanologists are all located in the same country. You just can't get better promotional organisation than that.
The team left monitoring equipment near the summit of the volcano and departed the vicinity "a matter of hours" before Eyjafallajökull blew its top. Following the volcano's eruption, ash was discharged into the upper reaches of the atmosphere and rendered unsafe commercial flights throughout Europe for the next three or four days, so far.
Presuming that volcanologists are a bit handy when it comes to judging the mood of volcanoes, they probably left themselves enough time to leave the area before it became a literal hot spot.
We're unable to report anything further, since the press information supplied by Toyota is short on information and long on hyperbole, but it does come with pretty pictures...
