Ford's steel roof convertible version of the Focus will go on sale this month. Styled by Pininfarina and boasting the sort of powered folding steel roof that has proved something of a hit with buyers of cars such as the Volkswagen Eos, Holden Astra Twintop, Renault Megane CC and Peugeot 307 CC, the new Ford can go from open air to warm-and-dry inside in 29 seconds. Ford claims class-leading luggage capacity (534 litres with the roof raised) and adult-sized rear seats.
Standard features for the car include dual-zone climate control, cruise, auto on/off headlights, rain-sensing wipers, heated mirrors, cooled glovebox and a six-disc CD audio system with eight speakers.
The 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine develops 107kW of power and 185Nm of torque. Ford has tuned the engine to deliver 90 per cent of the torque peak from just above 2000rpm, so as to work acceptably well with either the five-speed manual transmission fitted as standard, or with the optional four-speed automatic.
Fuel consumption is 7.5lt/100km for the manual variant or 8.3lt/100km for the auto, in accordance with the ADR81/01 standard in combined cycle testing.
Pricing is $45,490 for the manual and $47,490 for the auto.
