Last chance for Focus RS to be signed-off before it’s hit with delays. Have RS engineers done enough to fix the Ford VP’s criticisms of lack of drama, poor steering and brake feel?Following last episode’s disappointments when Ford’s vice president, Ray Nair, point-blank refused to sign off the Focus RS for production, the engineering team had just six weeks to fix the flaws identified by the VP to avoid big delays in the Focus RS production.
Top of the list of gripes pointed out by Nair was a lack of steering feel in the ‘Normal’ driving mode.
Next the senior Ford exec, whose job it is to sign-off every single car Ford makes world-wide, identified poor brake modulation under moderate to heavy braking.
Finally Nair, a former engineer who joined Ford back in 1987, also demanded engineers add some aural drama to the Focus RS - specifically for the hot hatch to have more exhaust pops, bangs and burbles on lift-off.
With plenty of long days and late nights worked, have the RS engineers done enough to impress their boss. And will he finally sign the Focus RS for production?
