Ford announces Competition Series Pack for GT supercar

CS pack created for Ford GT track day enthusiasts, deletes luxuries like air-con and adds plenty of lightweight parts

Ford has announced it is offering lucky buyers of the sold-out GT supercar a new Competition Series (CS) option that dramatically reduces weight of the standard car to boost performance for those who will use their cars on track.

Created to not only shed mass but lower the standard car's centre of gravity, the CS pack introduces a perspex engine cover with a manual latch, a lighter Gorilla Glass rear bulkhead window and carbon-fibre mirror caps, A-pillar and lower body trim.

As part of the pack, the GT comes with a lighter titanium exhaust and the optional carbon-fibre Australian-made rims that also use titanium wheel nuts.

Inside, the GT CS comes with an interior stripped of its air-conditioning, infotainment system, speakers, storage bins and even cup-holders.

To remind you of your sacrifices in the pursuit of speed the CS gains a black centre body stripe and bright red shift paddles.

Under the rear bonnet lies the turbocharged 3.5-litre V6 that produces 483kW/746Nm and enables it to top out at a maximum 348km/h.

Disappointingly, Ford hasn't revealed how much weight the CS pack saves over the standard car's already-lithe 1361kg, but it's thought to be in the region of 80-90kg.

Nor is it known how much the CS weight-saving program will cost buyers over the rumoured $650,000 they have already parted with for the GT.
