Ford breaks Bathurst drought

Lowndes, Whincup win for Ford

Ford's Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup have won the Bathurst 1000 to claim the inaugural Peter Brock Trophy at Mount Panorama.

Lowndes and Whincup steered cleared of several incidents throughout the 161-lap race to register an emotional victory and end Ford's title drought at Bathurst since 1998.

HSV Dealer Team Commodore drivers Rick and Todd Kelly finished in second position while Ford drivers James Courtney and Glenn Seton completed the podium in third position.

Holden pole sitter Skaife crashed out after less than 30 seconds of racing when he was speared into the wall on the climb up the mountain.

Ford's Bright, who started second on the grid, was forced to retire with engine problems after just 28 laps.
