The Finer Details

A Queensland Ford dealer briefly published an expressions-of-interest page for the Bronco before it was removed, providing the clearest indication yet that the model is destined for Australian showrooms.

The vehicle expected for Australia is not the Ranger-based Bronco sold in North America.

Instead, it is the Bronco New Energy, a five-seat SUV developed for the Chinese market and built through Ford's joint venture with Jiangling Motors.

The Bronco New Energy uses a monocoque platform rather than the ladder-frame architecture found under the US Bronco.

It measures 5025mm long, 1960mm wide and approximately 1820mm tall, making it larger than the Ford Everest and similar in size to several large family SUVs currently sold in Australia.

Reports suggest Australia will receive the range-extender electric version. This combines dual electric motors with a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that generates electricity for the battery pack.

Overseas specifications quote more than 300kW of power, up to 600Nm of torque and a claimed driving range of more than 1200 kilometres under Chinese testing standards.

Three grades are offered in China: Big Bend, Black Diamond and Outer Banks.

Features available overseas include a 15.6-inch touchscreen, adaptive cruise control, wireless phone charging, panoramic glass roof and 10 airbags. Higher-spec variants add differential locks, upgraded audio systems and additional driver-assistance technology.

The Road Ahead

Ford Australia has not officially confirmed timing, specifications or pricing for the Bronco New Energy.

If launched locally, the SUV would join the Mustang Mach-E, E-Transit and Ranger PHEV as part of Ford Australia's electrified range. More details are expected closer to a potential 2027 showroom arrival.
