Ford’s upcoming Bronco SUV has been purportedly outed in production form during a recent dealer conference in Las Vegas.
What’s unknown at this stage is whether the images are indeed of the Bronco or the confirmed baby Bronco that is also in development.
Ford’s president of global markets, Jim Farley, told Automotive News in October the company wasn’t revealing images of the full-size Bronco at the dealer conference, hinting the images may have been the baby version after all.
The two are set to adopt a similar approach in re-igniting Ford’s legendary off-roader. But whereas the larger Bronco is based on the same platform that underpins the Ranger ute and Everest SUV, the baby Bronco is reportedly underpinned by the same platform as the Focus small car.
The leaked images first appeared on Wednesday via off-road.com and show the car’s front, side and three-quarter angles. Round LED lights punctuate the front angle, shrouding bold “FORD” letters emblazoning the grille.
Ford released a sole teaser image of the smaller version earlier in the year, bearing an uncanny resemblance to the pics leaked from the conference.
There is speculation the baby Bronco will be formally called the Maverick, which would hark back to the same name used by Ford in Australia for its Nissan GQ Patrol twin back in the 1990s, along with a name employed by Ford in the 1970s.
Both the baby Bronco and the real deal are set to go on sale in global markets in 2020. Ford Australia says the arrival of either car is no certainty in Australia, pointing the continued success of the Ranger SUV.
