Ford Bronco Raptor teased

Blue Oval's boss confirms name of hard-core 4x4 and previews its grille in build-up to launch

A hard-core 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor is officially in the works, with the nameplate confirmed on Twitter by the Blue Oval's global chief Jim Farley.

Farley has ended speculation that the most extreme factory version of the Bronco would carry the Warthog moniker, with the SUV to follow the same path, in name at least, as the Australian-developed Ford Ranger Raptor and the bigger new F-150 Raptor.

In a short 17-second video posted by Farley, the clip gives us our first glimpse of a new grille that borrows much from the F-150, including its 'FORD' lettering and LED daytime running lamps that include three further LED lights above the grille.

The Bronco Raptor is set to feature a wider body and jacked-up motorsport-derived suspension and brakes.

However, it's unlikely to be powered by anything as monstrous as a V8.

Instead, expect either the F-150 Raptor’s 335kW/691Nm 3.5-litre V6, the latest Explorer’s 272kW/515Nm 3.0-litre V6 or an uprated version of the 231kW/542Nm 2.7-litre V6 that's already available in lesser Broncos.

As is the case with the regular Ford Bronco, the Raptor version won’t be offered in Australia through official factory distribution channels because there are no plans to produce it in right-hand drive.
