Fresh pics of a completely undisguised Ford Bronco Sport have been leaked online ahead of its launch later this year.
Not to be confused with the body-on-frame Ford Ranger-based big Bronco also leaked today, the Bronco Sport has been created to rival small SUVs like the Mazda CX-3, Hyundai Kona and Jeep Renegade and the pics, posted by
, suggest the car captured is production-ready.Featuring circular LED headlamps that pay tribute to the first-gen Bronco from 1965, the small Ford SUV gets rugged looks and an imposing 'BRONCO'-branded grille.
The Ford Bronco Sport features a clamshell bonnet, a slab-sided body and heavy use of black protective plastic on the arches and sills.
A steeply raked screen, large roof rack and stepped belt line suggest that Ford might be out to steal some of the hype surrounding the recently launched Land Rover Defender.
At the rear, there's a military-spec stamped boot lid, large D-shaped tail lamps and split-screen tailgate, along with yet more huge 'Bronco Sport' badging.
Ford has yet to release any formal information regarding the Bronco Sport but it's thought it will share engine and transmissions with the bigger Ford Escape.
That means the Bronco Sport engine range is set to kick-off with the a turbocharged 1.5-litre three-cylinder Ecoboost engine that should produce around 134kW and 240Nm.
An even more powerful 2.0-litre turbo could also be offered. Some European markets might get an entry 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol as well.
There's no word when the Bronco Sport will be revealed, but it could be as soon as next month say some reports.
