Ford customer snares build number 351
A Gold Coast man has secured an iconic build number from FPV's GT F production batchFord has fielded numerous requests to buy the 351st GT F model to be built, but the car in question could only go to one person.
That person, Ford has revealed today, is a long-time customer of Sunshine Ford on the Gold Coast.
The anonymous customer is one of many offered the chance to select their preferred build number ahead of production commencing. Most customers got the number they wanted, but the prized number 351 was the subject of a raffle. The winning entry was actually submitted by the dealer.
"We could probably have got a lot of money for the car on the open market but we are absolutely about rewarding loyalty, to the brand and to the dealership," said Sunshine Ford General Sales Manager, Ross Tanner, as quoted in a press release.
"The lucky recipient has been a fantastic long-time customer of ours, he's bought a lot of vehicles from us, and he's a genuine FPV enthusiast. He absolutely loves the brand, loves the cars and was beating my door down to make sure he got one of these final models.
"He's even got himself the Queensland registration GT351F to go on the car."
Sunshine Ford sold its allocation of eight sedans and two Pursuit utes in as little as three days. The GT F model develops 351kW – a number Ford chose for its association with the cubic-inch displacement of the 5.8-litre V8s that have powered the company's most iconic Falcons in the past, not least of all the 1971 GT HO Phase III.
The stampede to buy the final FPV models from Ford has taken place ahead of the cars going on sale this month. Ford will build 500 for Australia and a further 50 for the New Zealand market. Price is $77,990 for the GT F sedan – and Ford advises that very few remain unsold at this stage – with the 120-unit final build of the Pursuit Ute going for $52,990.
