If you haven't already got your name on the most powerful six-cylinder sports sedan ever mass-produced in Australia then you're too late.
Yes, Ford's swansong Falcon XR6 Sprint limited-edition is a sell-out, with all 500 examples of the 370kW/650Nm turbo-six sedan already allocated to Australian enthusiasts.
As of close of business on the day of the launch (March 16), Ford said all but "a handful" XR8 Sprints remain unsold, but only in automatic form.
All manual versions of the XR8 Sprint -- of which 750 will be available in Australia, with about half being auto – are also spoken for.
Just 50 XR6 Sprints and 100 XR8 Sprints will be made for New Zealand, meaning a total of 1400 units.
Production of both XR Sprint models begins just after Easter later this month, ahead of first deliveries in May. Prices start at $54,990 for the auto-only XR6 Sprint, with the XR8 Sprint manual costing $59,990 (auto: $62,190).
The Sprint duo replaces the standard XR8 and XR6 Turbo, making them Ford Australia's final Falcon sports sedans before the Blue Oval ceases local manufacturing on October 7.
Ford Australia president said at the launch that production was already locked in and that – apart from continued production of police-spec 270kW XR6 Turbo sedans -- no more hot Falcons would be build, despite demand exceeding supply.
