Ford Falcon XR Sprint in dealer stock

Select Ford dealers can still sell you a Falcon XR Sprint, Ford Australia president Graeme Whickman has told motoring.com.au.

"Obviously there was a high demand for them ahead of launch. There are a few around, here and there," he said.

Around 30 cars remain available, motoring.com.au understands. Whickman couldn't say off the top of his head what the specifications are for the unsold cars, and the situation is fluid.

"I don't have the breakdown… I'm sorry. I just don't have that to hand.

"A dealer might have one in stock, and it's showing in stock, but it might be ready to be sold the very next day...

"It's not a very accurate answer, but that's kind of where we're at."

That seems on the face of it to contradict word from Ford previously that all the limited production run cars had been sold. The 500 units of the XR6 Sprint (auto only) sold quickly, according to Ford at the time, as did the manual XR8 Sprint, comprising roughly half the 750-unit production batch.

"Theoretically we're sold out, but my answer to you is more around accuracy," Whickman continued, denying that the cars were sitting in stock as a result of customers cancelling their orders.

"There are couple of dealers I believe who might still be holding onto them, to see where that might go in the future."

Asked whether that then indicated a car could be considered 'sold out' once it had left the factory, even though the model of car remained in dealer stock, Whickman was succinct.

"In this particular vehicle line, pretty much, yes."
