Ford has upgraded its pure-electric Focus hatch with the addition of new 33.5kWh lithium-ion batteries to replace the current model's 23kWh cells.
In the US market (where the zero-emissions Focus is sold), the Focus Electric has had its official range increased by more than 60km to 185km.
Unfortunately, this still falls short of the 200km range of its closest rival, the Volkswagen e-Golf.
The Focus Electric also fails to come close the new long-range Renault Zoe Q90 that was launched at the Paris motor show and now comes with a range of 400km.
Still powered by the old car's 107kW electric motor, performance remains unchanged, with the Focus limited to a 135km/h top speed.
Until electric car infrastructure improves dramatically Down Under it's very unlikely Ford Australia will have any plans to introduce the Focus Electric here.
