Ford lets slip more details on all-new Fiesta

Still no word on pricing, but Ford lets slip details on Australian specifications for the new Fiesta

Ford has released basic specification data for the new Fiesta, ahead of its local unveiling at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney next month.

As previously reported, the Fiesta will be sold in three levels of trim locally: CL, LX and Zetec. Three and five-door variants will be available for the base and upmarket grades, with the mid-range LX grade limited to five-door only.

Ford has now further revealed that all models other than the three-door Zetec will offer the option of automatic transmission. The three-door Zetec will be manual-only.

Running right across the range, the 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine develops 88kW of power at 6000rpm and 152Nm of torque at 4050rpm. Driving through the manual transmission, the engine produces 143g/km of CO2 and returns a combined-cycle fuel consumption figure of 6.1L/100km.

The engine in the automatic variants is a 1.4-litre four-cylinder that generates 71kW at 5750rpm and 128Nm at 4200rpm. Fuel consumption on the ADR81/01 combined cycle is 6.9L/100km and CO2 emissions are 164g/km.

All Fiesta variants for Australia will be fitted with standard ABS and EBD, as well as dual front airbags. A driver's knee airbag is standard for the Zetec models. This feature is part of a Safety Pack that will be an option for CL and LX variants. Other inclusions for the Safety Pack are side-impact airbags and DSC (stability control) with Emergency Brake Assist.

On the comfort and convenience features cruise control will be standard for LX and Zetec Fiestas. Bluetooth connectivity will feature voice activation and will be standard for the LX and Zetec grades. Zetec also features a USB input and all models will be fitted with a 3.5mm audio input jack.

The Fiesta will feature capless refuelling and the factory sanctions both 91 RON petrol and E10 (10 per cent ethanol mix).

Wheels for the range comprise 15-inch steel wheels with covers for the entry-level Fiesta CL, 15-inch alloys for the Fiesta LX and 16-inch alloys for the Fiesta Zetec.

Ford will offer 11 exterior colours for the entire range: Frozen White, Colorado Red, Morello, Squeeze, Avalon, Panther Black, Ocean, Cedar, Vision, Sea Grey, Moondust Silver.
