Ford Mustang GT gets 600kW power boost

New Ford Performance supercharger kit announced for 5.0-litre V8 pony car – and it's coming to Australia

Ford Performance has launched a big supercharged power upgrade for the new S650-series 2024 Ford Mustang at the SEMA modified car show in Las Vegas, boosting the pony car’s power output to north of 800hp (600kW).

And the good news is the Blue Oval’s official factory-backed blower for the new seventh-generation Mustang will become available to Aussies via Herrod Performance, the exclusive Ford Performance Parts agent in Australia.

Speaking to carsales from the SEMA show, where the Ford Performance FP800S Concept was unleashed, Rob Herrod said the supercharger kit is expected to be offered here from around mid-2024, either as a retrofit or a complete vehicle.

As well as the new 3.0-litre Whipple twin-scroll supercharger, it includes a larger intercooler, oversized heat exchanger, intercooler pump, new fuel-injectors, billet high-flow fuel rails, a larger 92mm throttle body, a new cold-air intake, high-flow air-filter and a specific ECU retune.

Developed for both the 10-speed auto and manual transmission-equipped Ford Mustang GT, the Ford Performance-developed power kit comes with a three-year/60,000km warranty in North America, where it will be available before the end of this year, although pricing has yet to be announced.

The force-fed factory upgrade is so far only offered for the 5.0-litre V8-powered Mustang GT, but Ford Performance has also announced a similar supercharger upgrade is in the works for its flagship Ford Mustang Dark Horse. Full details will be released later.

Set to arrive in Australia in the second quarter of 2024, the new-generation Ford Mustang will be priced from $64,990 plus on-road costs for the four-cylinder turbo-petrol version.

But the new 347kW/550Nm Mustang GT will cost at least $77,000 plus ORCs, marking a price hike of almost $12,000 compared to the outgoing pony car.

Just 1000 examples of the 349kW/548Nm Dark Horse flagship will be available here, with the manual starting from $99,102 and the auto from $103,002 plus ORCs.
