Ford Mustang Mach-E leaked

High-riding American EV coming late 2020, priced at $US44,000 – but Aussies left in limbo

The world's first silent Mustang -- which is also an SUV -- will cost about the same as the V8 GT coupe on sale in Australia today.

Price and specification of the Ford Mustang Mach-E crossover have been leaked via the Mach-E forum after some clever URL hacks, revealing official slides from the Ford website.

Leaked two days ahead of its pre-show reveal at the 2019 Los Angeles motor show, Ford uses the catchphrase "The future of exhilaration" to describe its new model, which in top-spec GT guise will rip from 0-100km/h in under 4.0 seconds.

You want big screens? You got it!

Compared to many other SUV EVs from Telsa, Audi and Mercedes-Benz, the Ford Mustang Mach-E will be competitively priced, spanning a range from $US43,895 ($A65,000) to $US60,500 ($A89,000).

Cruising ranges for the all-electric SUV inspired by the iconic Mustang cover a spread of 380km to 480km, based on EPA measurements.

The new design has been leaked too

The new Mustang-badged Mache E electric vehicle will be sold in Europe, North America and China, but no other markets have been confirmed.

Ford's new EV will trot into dealerships from late 2020 across the globe but Aussie deliveries are not looking good at present. There were "No official prospects" for the sports car-inspired EV coming Down Under, said a Ford Australia spokesman today.

Ford Mustang Mach-E performance figures revealed

"We have no specific Australia/New Zealand news with regards to Mach-E," added the Ford spokesman.

"We do however look forward to starting our electrification journey with the Escape PHEV next year," he said.

Rivalling vehicles such as the Telsa Model X -- and possibly the Model Y SUV -- the entry-level Ford Mustang Mach-E 'Select' model-grade will cover a distance of up to 370km (230 miles) before needing to recharge, and will pump out 190kW (255hp) and 415Nm.

Mach-E GT models will cost at least $100,000 if it comes to Australia

That's about the same amount of power as a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder hot hatch, but it's significantly quicker, accelerating from 0-100km/h in around 5.5 seconds.

The California Route 1 model-grade, costing $US52,400 ($A77,100), generates 210kW (282hp) and the same 415Nm.

It has the highest EV range of the pack, at 480km (300 miles) and this range can also be achieved on $US50,600 ($A74,500) 'Premium' models when optioned with the extended range battery packs.

The highest power output listed is 250kW (333hp) and 582Nm in the Premium and First Edition models.

Ford has not divulged the power of the range-topping $US60,500 ($A89,000) Mustang Mach-E GT models, but has confirmed a range of 400km (250 miles) and sub four second 0-100km/h acceleration.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E comes in rear-drive and all-wheel drive layouts, and features a water resistant front trunk (boot), or frunk.

Entry-level rear-drive Select models are smartly priced

European and US customers keen on getting one of the first Mustang Mach-E vehicles can place a $US500 ($A730) deposit, which is refundable.

It remains to be seen whether the new model will surpass the hundreds of thousands of pre-orders Tesla claimed to have accumulated with the Model 3 launch.
