Ford Mustang Mach-E prices slashed – again

Ford Australia has dramatically reduced the prices of its slow-selling Mustang Mach-E electric SUV for the second time in seven months and also slashed the base price of the Ford E-Transit electric van by $15,000.

The Blue Oval brand trimmed Mustang Mach-E prices by up to $7000 in December and today announced a further $8000 price cut for its first EV.

Retailing for $15,000 less than when it was released in October 2023, the 2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E is now priced from $64,990 plus on-road costs in entry-level Select form, $79,990 plus ORCs in Premium guise and $97,990 plus ORCs for the top-spec GT.

The discounts mean the Mach-E now undercuts the Kia EV6 (from $72,590), but still remains more than $9000 pricier than the best-selling Tesla Model Y, following its $5000 base price cut to just $55,900 plus ORCs earlier this month.

It’s a similar story with the 2024 Ford E-Transit full-size delivery van, which has been priced from $99,990 drive-away since the beginning of this year – a discount of more than $10,000 by the time it’s on the road.

But Ford Australia has today reduced the price of its second EV even further, with the E-Transit now permanently priced from $89,990 plus ORCs, marking a $15,000 price reduction from its original $104,990 plus ORCs starting price announced in 2023.

Ford Australia president and CEO Andrew Birkic said the discounts were all about making EVs more affordable in difficult financial times, but they clearly also aim to increase sales of both battery-electric models.

“These MLP price reductions offer even greater value to our customers and it makes these great vehicles an option for more people,” he said.

“Being able to avoid the cost and inconvenience of the petrol station and just plug in while you’re at home is a big value-add for EV owners, so helping our customers to facilitate home charging while they’re at the Ford dealer makes perfect sense.”

Ford had sold 223 Mustang Mach-Es as of April this year, compared to 721 Kia EV6s and 8001 Tesla Model Ys, while both the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and the pricier Genesis GV60 also continue to prove more popular.
