Ford Pro has released teaser images and a short video of its second all-electric van that it will unwrap on May 9.
Looking identical to the electric 2022 Ford Torneo Custom people-mover that was previewed back in March, the introduction of a second battery-powered delivery van is another important step forward in the Blue Oval's transition to becoming a zero-emissions brand in Europe by 2030.
The latest darkened image of the Ford Torneo Custom gives us a clearer look at its prominent LED light bar and double-stacked LED headlights, while the video reveals its X-shaped LED tail-lights.
By 2024, Ford has already confirmed it will have, in total, five electric commercial vehicles in the market with the Torneo Custom lining up alongside the Transit Courier, Torneo Courier, Transit Custom and the Ford E-Transit that's already on sale in Europe and will launch in Australia mid-year, becoming the brand's first EV Down Under.
It's not yet been confirmed what platform the new Torneo Custom will be based on, but it could ride on an adapted version of an existing combustion architecture.
If that's the case, expect the Torneo Custom to share the recently-launched E-Transit's powertrains.
That means the entry-level van should come with a 68kWh battery that will be combined with either a 135kW front-mounted electric motor or a more powerful 198kW/430Nm motor.
Another possibility is the Torneo Custom could be the first van to benefit from Ford-Volkswagen's technical alliance.
In that case, it would sit on VW's dedicated pure-electric MEB architecture and share batteries and powertrains with the upcoming Volkswagen ID. Buzz Cargo.
In any case, expect the Ford van to offer a decent range of up to 350km.
There's no word on when the Torneo Custom will enter production but it's thought it could be available to European fleets before the end of this year.
