Other standard features include the SYNC3 infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which is now standard across the entire 2020 Ford Ranger line-up.
Like the entire MY20 Ranger line-up, a number of driver assistance technologies are as standard on the FX4r, including autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning and active lane keep assist, along with traffic sign recognition and auto-dipping high-beam headlights.
As is the case for the Ranger XLT, an optional tech pack can also be added that brings automated parallel parking and adaptive cruise control.
Engine choices for the Ranger FX4 include the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder twin turbo-diesel mill (157kW/500Nm), paired to a 10-speed powertrain. Claimed consumption is 7.4L/100km.
Buyers can also opt for the tried-and-tested 3.2-litre five-cylinder turbo-diesel (147kW/470Nm) with a six-speed auto offered previously. It burns fuel at a rate of 8.4L/100km when paired to the manual gearbox.
The FX4's towing capacity remain at 3500kg.
Like all new Fords, the FX4 comes with a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty with capped-price servicing and a free loan car when your vehicle is in the shop.
Rivals for the 2020 Ford Ranger include the top-selling Toyota HiLux along with the Mitsubishi Triton and Nissan Navara.
