Ford Australia has joined Mazda in recalling its Ranger ute over a faulty gearshift cable retaining clip.
Earlier this week the Mazda BT-50, which shares the same underpinnings and engine as the Ranger, was officially recalled via the Australian Government's Product Safety website.
Now the Ranger has followed suit with virtually the same symptoms. In total, 5655 vehicles fitted with a manual transmission and produced between July 14, 2015 and February 2, 2016, are affected.
“The gearshift cable retaining clip may not be securely fastened, which could lead to the gearshift cables making contact with the rear driveshaft,” the Ranger’s recall statement says on the Product Safety website.
Ford says there have been no reported failures of the issue, but warns that continued contact between the gearshift cables and driveshaft can damage both components.
“This could result in difficulty changing gears and/or loss of drive, posing an accident hazard,” it says.
Ford is attempting to contact owners over the issue. To see if your vehicle is affected, visit the Australian Product Safety website.
