Slotting in between XL and XLT grades, the Ranger XLS is based on the XL dual cab 4x4 with the 3.2-litre engine, developing 147kW and 470Nm, and a six-speed manual transmission. Priced at $48,090, the new variant fills a gap in the range, providing private and small business buyers with enhanced exterior style, a locking rear diff, 16-inch alloy wheels, floor carpeting and front fog lights. The lockable diff is in an upgrade from the XL model's open diff with traction control.
“We’re excited to be able to offer the XLS to our customers, many of whom have been asking for a mid-range model between the XL and XLT,” said Ford Australia General Manager Marketing, David Katic, quoted in a company press release.
“The Ranger has been a huge hit in Australia and continues to win friends with its rugged style, performance and economy.
“Customers also appreciate the Smart technologies like Bluetooth and Voice Activation as well as Ranger’s five-star safety rating. The Ranger was the first pickup ever to be awarded a 5-star rating by EuroNCAP.”
The exterior highlights that distinguish the Ranger XLS from the XL include a silver-accented radiator grille and body-colour mirrors. Ford Dealers will commence delivering the Ranger XLS from May.
