Ford readying 530kW super ‘Stang

Ford’s next Mustang Shelby GT500 could come with an incredible 530kW, according to new reports.

Due next year, the performance flagship has already been spotted testing and is said to have been developed specifically to outgun the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.

More exciting for fans of impossibly powerful muscle cars is the GT500 is expected to come with even more power and torque than either the Chevy or Dodge.

That means the Shelby GT500 (that might also resurrect the Mach 1 name), could come with around 530kW/900Nm says US car blog, Motor Authority.

To generate such huge power and torque, it's believed Ford will resort to adding twin-turbos to the 5.2-litre V8 that powers the existing Shelby GT350.

Adding credibility to that rumour is the US car blog claims it’s already seen a Mustang mule testing with a sticker in the windscreen that read "TT-0081".

A similar engine code was also seen on a mule that was confirmed to be the twin-turbocharged F-150 Raptor.

If true, the flagship Mustang will come with monumental performance.

Expect it to sprint to 100km/h in less than 3.5 seconds and to top out at 330km/h.

The GT500 could also come with a 10-speed automatic that was co-developed with General Motors. The new automatic is claimed to offers shifts that are even quicker than Porsche's dual-clutch PDK transmission.

The prototype, spotted by Motoring Authority, suggests the next GT500 will have an aggressive aero based on the hardcore GT350R.

The heavily camouflaged Mustang also hinted at a wider front and rear track, bigger brakes and a power bulge on the bonnet hinting at the substantial changes to the V8.

The fastest-ever Mustang is expected to be revealed later this year. It's hoped the GT500 will be approved for right-hand drive and that a very limited number will head Down Under.
