Ford reprises limited edition G6 Falcon

Extra gear for no cost and aggressive driveaway pricing aim at drawing more customers to top-selling Ford

Ford's limited edition G6 is back for 2010, reprising the 2009 model with a raft of additions that don't add to the cost -- as well as the choice of petrol or E-Gas versions.

With standard 18-inch G Series alloy wheels, splashes of colour accents on the upper and lower grilles and rear bumper insert, and a more dressed-up interior including "leather detailed" seat trim, sports leather steering wheel with satin alloy-look cruise control and audio buttons, plus standard iPod and Bluetooth, the limited edition version is a cut above the regular G6.

Significantly, the limited edition version also adds standard side-curtain airbags to supplement the regular G6's front and front side airbags-only array (as well as the G6, curtain airbags are optional in XT and XR Falcons too).

The E-Gas version of the limited edition G6 drops wheel size from 18 to 17 inches -- and has to make to with the old four-speed auto transmission as well. Until the Falcon migrates to the liquid-injection system later this year, all LPG-fuelled cars, including this limited edition model produce 156kW at 4750rpm and 371Nm at 2750rpm, which is down on the regular petrol version's 195kW at 6000rpm and 391Nm at 3250rpm. The limited-edition petrol G6 drives through Ford's five-speed auto transmission.

2010 special edition G6 buyers are one-up on those who purchased in 2009, with "prestige" paint now a no extra cost option.

Ford says the petrol limited edition's driveaway price of $36,990 equates to almost $13,000 of added net retail value over regular G6 models. The E-Gas version adds $2000 to the price -- although Ford points out that the $2000 government grant via the LPG Vehicle Scheme is available to eligible customers.
