Ford reveals Falcon G6 Limited Edition

Blue Oval is trying to lure buyers to its luxury line-up with special model

Having made a success of its XR range, Ford Australia is turning its attention to the G6 luxury models. Accordingly, it announced today that it will offer a G6 Limited Edition later this month that it claims adds $13,000 worth of value over the standard G6, thanks to a reduced starting price and new equipment.

The G6 Limited Edition will sell for $36,490 drive away and packs $4000 worth of additional equipment for no extra cost over a regular G6. The special run of Falcons will be available with both petrol and E-Gas engines. Although the E-Gas costs $2000 more than the petrol model, Ford is quick to point out that many private customers are eligible for a $2000 government grant.

External changes are 18-inch wheels (17-inch on the E-Gas), unique colour accents on the upper and lower grilles, fog lamp bezels, a rear bumper insert and a 'Limited Edition' badge. Internally the special Falcon is equipped with side curtain airbags, leather seat trim, leather wrapped steering wheel plus iPod and Bluetooth integration.

Currently the XR6 range accounts for over 40 per cent of Falcon sales with most G Series buyers opting for the high level G6E and G6E Turbo. Offering the G6 Limited Edition is designed to entice new buyers to Fords entry-level luxury model.

"The G6 Limited Edition is a luxury car with a strong value proposition, which will further promote and strengthen the G Series brand," said Beth Donovan, Ford Australia Vice President Marketing, Sales and Service.

Speaking at the company's regular media briefing this morning (Sept 11), Ford Australia chief Marin Burela admitted that the success of the Limited Edition could ultimately lead to a change in line-up by bringing G6 and G6E closer together -- or, indeed, combining them completely.

"Not sure," Burela said of such a move. "Too early to say."

The Ford boss revealed that all examples of the cars have been snapped up by dealer pre-orders around the country before production commenced. But exactly how many G6 Limited Editions will be built remains a mystery though, with Ford refusing to say.

"We want them [buyers] to feel special," Burela said.

Burela also said Falcon production for the rest of the year is close to sold out, with orders for the G6E Turbo out to December and XR orders running well into November.
