Ford reveals GT '66 Heritage Edition
Car-maker plays tribute to Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon's Le Mans-winning race car with modern GT that shares its paintFord has released pictures of its all-new GT supercar painted in the historic livery of the 1966 Le Mans-winning GT40 that was driven to victory by Kiwi racers Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon.
Called the Ford GT '66 Heritage Edition, the modern GT40 tribute comes painted in black with the matching silver-stripe livery of the Mark II GT40 race car that was part of the famous 1-2-3 Ford finish in the world-famous endurance race.
Wearing a set of one-piece forged gold-coloured 20-inch alloy wheels, the limited-edition supercar also sports frozen white No.2 graphics while, inside, there are leather-wrapped carbon-fibre seats, headlining and door pillars.
Like the winning '66 GT40, the special-edition GT comes with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and blue seat belts.
A special commemorative plague, 'No.2' door cards and exposed matte carbon-fibre door sills and centre console complete the changes over the standard car.
Ford hasn't confirmed how many GT '66 Heritage Edition models it hopes to make but says the supercar will only be available to order within the first model year of production.
Ford has already announced it has received 10,800 expressions of interest and 6500 official orders for its 450kW-plus left-hand drive supercar designed by Australian Todd Willing.
With production capped at just 500 vehicles over two years, and an unconfirmed price tag rumoured to exceed $600,000, the US car-maker says buyers were so keen to own the GT that hundreds even went as far as sending in a short begging video to prove why they deserved the Ford supercar.
