Ford has unveiled its next-generation 2.0-litre diesel that’s claimed to be cleaner, lighter and up to 13 per more efficient than the 2.2 TDCi it replaces.
Called the 2.0-litre EcoBlue, the new engine is said to pre-empt strict Euro 6 emissions regulations that will come into effect in September.
Described as a “game changer” in terms of emissions, fuel consumptions and power the new four-cylinder diesel will be available with 77kW, 96kW and a 125kW and will first debut in the Transit van.
Claimed to weigh 10-15kg less than the outgoing TDCi engine the new engine has also been designed to be packaged more tightly.
Suiting its light commercial vehicle application, the engine is said to produce 20 per cent more torque at just 1250rpm than the outgoing 2.2-litre.
Noise has also been cut at idle.
Later on, a 1.5-litre, developed from the 2.0-litre, will also choice its new EcoBlue engine line-up.
In the Transit, as well as improving fuel consumption, emissions are said to also improve by more than 10 per cent.
