Software developer Intelematics is showing off the Club Connect application at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Nevada.
It is a long way from home, given that Club Connect is designed to bring added value for your car club membership back here in Australia. Intelematics is a wholly owned subsidiary of RACV with its highest profile service being the SUNA live traffic information beamed out to navigation devices in Australia since 2007 and New Zealand from 2012.
Essentially Club Connect is designed as a middle-ware style product fitted to Ford’s SYNC AppLink platform. AppLink equipped Fords maintain core functionality such as hands-free phone calls and infotainment controls, however the benefit of AppLink is more as a platform for other software developers. This was showcased in the recent AppLink Hackathon competitions, where individuals and companies competed over 24 hours to produce application ideas for the platform. The inaugural Australian Hackathon was held in Melbourne in November. With Club Connect Intelematics is providing a further layer of development platform over the AppLink foundation to enable services and benefits primarily aimed at car club members.
On show at CES are Club Connect features including location-based parking information that shows rates and special offers – much handier than a sign posted well inside the parking complex where it is often too late to decide not to continue.
Club Connect also features a fuel pricing and location service.
“Together with Australia’s Motoring Clubs we have developed a mobile App that brings together relevant motoring content to drivers in a safe and convenient way, which is an ideal fit for Ford’s Sync AppLink platform,” said Adam Game, Chief Executive Officer, Intelematics.
“The Club Connect App is an example of RACV adding value for its more than two million members and Ford drivers,” said Colin Jordan, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, RACV.
