Ford to 'ADR' Mustang performance parts

High-performance parts are on the way for Mustang, but Ford won't be promoting the Roush brand

Ford Australia is "investigating" Mustang performance parts that may be supplied from renowned aftermarket tuners Roush and Herrod Motorsport, but they will be Ford-branded and ADR-compatible.

Speaking at the announcement of Ford's free map data updates programme, Ford Australia's Communications & Public Affairs Director, Wes Sherwood, told motoring.com.au that Ford performance parts for the Mustang will be Ford-branded and Ford backed, irrespective of the supplier. And they will get a stamp of approval from the federal government too.

"We are going through the full ADR process; that tends to be a little bit different than what some of the aftermarket parts offerings [do]," Sherwood said.

Ford Australia president Graeme Whickman chimed in, explaining that any upgraded Mustang performance part sold through a local Ford dealer will have to be "warrantable".

The Mustang situation appears to be markedly different from the Focus RS situation. Ford Australia has already committed to importing Mountune performance kits for the Fiesta and Focus ST, and seems likely to do so for the Focus RS as well.

"The Roush relationship is a bit of a different one than Mountune," Whickman said.

"What we are looking for is a Ford-backed part... ie, that's warrantable, and that's the work that we will be continuing to work on."

There's no word yet on how long Mustang buyers will wait, however.

"In terms of timeframe, I don't have an announcement in that regard," Whickman said.
