Ford's X-treme GT makeover
If you've been lusting after a Ford GT, the just-announced roadster version is more news you won't want to hear.Ford has upped the ante on its own retro supercar Ford GT with a roadster version it's just unveiled in Las Vegas at the annual SEMA show.
The GTX1 roadster was inspired by the 1966 Sebring-winning car of the same name. And Ford GT buyers -- in the States, anyway -- can order one just like it.
The car's not an official Ford project but has been pulled together by the car-maker's SVT performance vehicle division using a recognised car customiser and Ford-friendly aftermarket equipment suppliers. Hence the unveiling at America's biggest aftermarket equipment show.
However, Ford does say that the open-top version of the GT was conceived by SVT engineering boss Kip Ewing and eventually built by Genaddi Design Group's Mark Gerisch.
Ford GT buyers in the US -- no, unfortunately we don't get the GT in Australia -- can have their car lopped by taking it to Gerisch. There's also a Genaddi Design Group website for the car at www.gtx1.com
