Former Ford CEO lands BHP job

Jac Nasser, who worked his way to the top job at Ford, is the new BHP Chairman

Jac Nasser, who started his business career at Ford Australia's Broadmeadows headquarters, has been named the new Chairman of mining giant BHP Billiton.

Having spent 33 years working for Ford, first in Australia, then appointed to the top job of CEO and President of the Blue Oval in Detroit in 1999, Nasser will replace Don Argus as the BHP Chairman in early 2010.

"Jac Nasser will make an excellent successor to Don Argus as Chairman," said Senior Independent Director for BHP Billiton, John Buchanan, who chaired the Board which oversaw the chairman replacement process.

After an 18 month selection process, the Lebanese-born, Australia-raised Nasser was chosen for the job to head up the world's largest mining company.

"He combines deep international business knowledge along with outstanding financial, senior management and board experiences. The Board looks forward to Jac leading the Group as Chairman," Buchanan added.
