Free family-friendly cinema for Australian F1 GP
Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix to host free, family-friendly outdoor cinemaGive taco Tuesday a miss and head to the Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix circuit at Albert Park Lake this Tuesday (March 20) for a free, family-friendly night at the movies.
While the adrenalin-fuelled world of Formula 1 racing is famous for attracting wannabe socialites and the most discerning race-goers, amidst all that bling and conspicuous consumption the free cinema night is something of an anomaly.
“We’re excited to invite the community to the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit ahead of the event, and what better way to do this than to hold a free cinema night at the circuit itself!” said Andrew Westacott, Australian Grand Prix Corporation CEO.
Movie-goers will be able pull up a piece of grass and enjoy the free outdoor cinema screening two family-friendly movies. Gates open at 5:00pm with The Incredibles (PG) to be shown from 6:00pm, followed by The Avengers (M) at 8:00pm.
Even without the exhilarating sound of Formula 1 cars tearing up the tarmac, there’s a fabulous atmosphere to be enjoyed trackside.
“If I wasn’t working, I’d be heading down there to watch the Avengers myself,” Westacott said.
Bring your own rugs and food (and mozzie repellent)... but don’t bring chairs, glass or alcohol (they rarely mix well). There will however be a food truck and a bar service open on the night.
Entry to the Community Cinema is via Gate 1 on Canterbury Road (opposite Armstrong Street) and also accommodates disabled access.
The four-day Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix event officially kicks off on Thursday (March 22), and children aged 14 and under get free general admission with any ticket-holding adult.
Situated on the golf course area near turn 11, you’ll find the Kids Zone featuring family-friendly food and beverages, Disney displays, live music, inflatable fun, a super screen and the Porsche Kids Driving School (height regulations apply).
The new kids sporting zone gives littlies the change to explore golf, soccer, lacrosse and even ski and snow boarding.
For your convenience, you’ll find toilets, parents’ rooms and hydration stations throughout the venue.
The Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix is on over March 22-25.
