FPV BF range released with new six-speed automatic transmission

Ford Performance Vehicles has released details and pricing for their new BF range of go-fast machines. This time the hot news is not about the powerful lumps under the bonnet - it's the clever new six-speed automatic transmission that is capturing headli

CarPoint has sampled the entire new range of automatic FPVs and while manual transmission remains our preferred option we could easily be tempted into the fantastic new self-shifter.

The updated BF range of FPVs features newly re-styled front and rear bumpers to enhance the performance look while giving the V8 and F6 models a visual point of difference. A new line of optional stripes and hood decals -- along with three new colours -- is also available to provide customers with a still wider range of personal touches.

Braking packages have also been improved across the board with the range-topping GT-P and Super Pursuit now boasting six-piston Brembo front callipers - as seen on super-expensive AMG Mercedes models - along with standard 19-inch wheels.

Engine-wise FPVs engineering partner Prodrive has tweaked the V8 and turbo six-cylinders to meet the impending strict Euro III emissions standards -- and all without any drop in performance.

But it's the ZF six-speed automatic offered as $1250 option across the six-car range -- including the F6 Typhoon and Tornado models for the first time -- that is the real talking point.

At the launch in Victoria this week, CarPoint put each car through its strides along the twisting Alpine roads and came away impressed with the developments. The six-speed unit is a dramatic improvement over the four-speed auto used previously and provides seamless and intelligent gear changes.

The new auto is now a very real option for performance-oriented drivers who would normally scoff at the thought of using a self-shifter.

The FPV BF models are priced from:

F6 Tornado $52,780
F6 Typhoon $59,810
Pursuit $54,170
Super Pursuit $59,200
GT $62,210
GT-P $70,410
Keep an eye out for CarPoint's launch coverage of the new FPV BF range next week.
