FRANKFURT MOTOR SHOW: Alfa 4C Concept reborn

Frankfurt motor show will see Alfa Romeo's 4C Concept make a bold statement, finished in 'fluid metal'

Alfa Romeo unveiled the 4C Concept in a strong red finish, at the Geneva motor show back in March. For Frankfurt, later this month, the snazzy design study will set the crowd back on its heels with a new colour, which Alfa Romeo calls 'fluid metal'.

Based on the LHD-only 8C Competitzione, the 4C (pictured) is also rear wheel drive and measures just four metres in length. Power is supplied by an uprated version of the 1750 TBi direct-injection turbo four-cylinder, driving through the company's TCT (Twin Clutch Transmission).

We won't see the 4C in Australia — and it may not even make it to production — but Alfa Romeo will display new variants that are pencilled in for the local market. The first is the Giulietta with the TCT, which will be available coupled to either the 1.4-litre MultiAir engine or a new diesel variant with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder power unit.

Alfa Romeo will also exhibit the MiTo with two new engines, both of which will go on sale in Australia. One is a 900cc TwinAir TB unit and the other is a 1.3-litre turbodiesel. According to the manufacturer and its local distributor, the TwinAir petrol engine produces CO2 emissions of 98g/km, through use of fuel-saving devices such as auto-stop/start and a 'smart' alternator.

Prices will be confirmed closer to launch.
