FRANKFURT MOTOR SHOW: Bentley's Continental GTC on show

Drop-top version of the second-generation Continental GT is revealed in the lead-up to Frankfurt motor show next month

Bentley has jumped the gun, issuing press material and photos of its new Continental GTC, which is based on the Continental GT coupe, but with a folding roof.

"The GTC has always been the most emotional model in the Continental range and a showcase for Bentley design," said Wolfgang Drheimer, Chairman and Chief Executive, Bentley Motors.

"With its tailored soft top, the GTC is a pure British convertible true to those classic Bentleys of the past. However, the technology, performance and overall design excellence invested in this model means that we are now writing a new chapter for the Bentley convertible driver."

The new GTC will be powered by a flex-fuel-capable 6.0-litre W12 developing 423kW of power and channelling 700Nm of torque through the car's six-speed ZF automatic transmission. From there, the all-wheel drive system directs the output to the road via 20-inch alloy wheels as standard, with three different types of optional 21-inch wheels also available. Bentley has revised the torque split for the all-wheel-drive system from 50/50 to 40/60 rear-biased in this upgraded model. According to the maker, the revised torque split reduces understeer during cornering. The torque peak is raised 50Nm over the old car's figure.

Constructed using aluminium panels outside, the GTC opts for a softer touch inside, with 17 different colour options for the leather upholstery, complemented by seven alternative woodgrain veneers, decorative metal highlights and deep-pile carpets. Keeping the outside out when required, the folding roof features multiple layers of fabric and acoustically insulating glass.

Bentley dealers are ready to take orders and the first customer deliveries are set to commence from late this year.
