FRANKFURT MOTOR SHOW: BMW i Vision Dynamics to rival Tesla
Sleek i Vision Dynamics show car previews future Model S rivalBMW revealed a sleek, high performance electric sedan at the Frankfurt Motor Show as it gets set to join the list of automotive brands tackling Tesla head-on.
Munich's latest concept car is the i Vision Dynamics, a vehicle the company describes as a "four-door Gran Coupe". BMW claims it will accelerate from zero to 100km/h in just four seconds, has a top speed in excess of 200km/h and its electric range is 600kms.
These are all figures to threaten the established sales-dominating Tesla Model S, and also ramp-up pressure on the nascent Porsche Mission E which is still two years away from launch.
"At the BMW Group, the future of electric mobility has already arrived,” says Dr Harald Krüger, BMW's Chairman of the Board.
"We have more electrified vehicles on the road than any established competitor and are committed to expanding our activities in the field of electric mobility as part of our NUMBER ONE > NEXT strategy. By 2025 we will be offering 25 models with an electrified drive system – of which 12 will be pure-electric.
"With the BMW i Vision Dynamics we are showcasing how we envisage future electric mobility between the i3 and i8: a dynamic and progressive, four-door Gran Coupe. We are therefore electrifying the heart of the BMW brand and, at the same time, elevating BMW i into a totally new dimension."
While the powertrain of the i Vision Dynamics is the major talking point, the show car's styling carries a hint of future styling direction for the BMW brand – not least of which is the stylised grille, now a conjoined version of the famous kidneys.
