Frankfurt promises to be a busy show for BMW, with the company pulling the covers off a host of new production models and show cars.
Possibly the most eagerly awaited cars to go display on the BMW stand will be the Concept 8 and the Concept Z4. Both cars preview production models in the works, the next Z4 and the 8 Series, the latter eventually succeeding the current 6 Series coupe, convertible and Gran Coupe.
"The forthcoming BMW 8 Series Coupe will demonstrate that razor-sharp dynamics and modern luxury can go hand-in-hand. This will be the next model in the expansion of our luxury-car offering and will raise the benchmark for coupes in the segment," says BMW chairman, Harald Krüger.
The 8 Series will also spawn an M8 model, which is the basis for BMW's contender for the FIA World Endurance Championship, the M8 GTE. That car will also be present at Frankfurt.
A number of production cars will also put in an appearance at the show, including the 6 Series Gran Turismo, which shares its architecture with the latest 5 Series and replaces the 5 Series Gran Turismo in BMW's line-up. After the demise of other 6 Series model, the Gran Turismo will be the one remaining body style to wear the badge.
Other new models to be presented in Frankfurt from the show's opening on September 14 are the new X3, the all-wheel drive M5, the upgraded i3 and the 7 Series 40 Jahre.
