FRANKFURT MOTOR SHOW: Ford Evos

Ford's stunning "expression" of its new global design language was one of the stars of the 2011 Frankfurt motor show

Evos is a glimpse into Ford's future – and it's a future that includes a fair dose of style!

The stunning fastback coupe paints a clear picture of Ford's intent to develop a new, confident design language. It's a language that will soon be the new face of the company's "One Ford" global strategy.

Evos' exterior design is said to promote a fun-to-drive spirit, the new fascia and trapezoidal grille mounted higher to promote a "confident, more premium look". Bold, technical shapes, especially those of the headlamps and grille are among key elements Ford says it will apply to future models.

Sculptured flanks, sweeping roofline and a high level of attention to detail give Evos a taut, masculine character. Ford says these are typical of more expensive vehicles but will soon become fundamental to the shape of its "coherent family of distinctive vehicles".

The four-door, four-seat C-segment coupe also explores future powertrain and vehicle technologies, with at least one powertrain option to be a lithium-ion plug-in hybrid setup that operates either in conjunction with, or independently of, a petrol engine.

Ford says the setup maximises efficiency by operating in electric-only mode for as long as possible before switching to conventional power. Range is estimated at up to 800km with charging to be conducted wirelessly via a floor-mounted pad in your garage.

Driveability is also said to be a characteristic unique to the eco-savvy sports coupe, Ford saying Evos will "redefine the driving experience" with tuning, handling and performance adjusting to suit not only driving style, but road and weather conditions as well.

Evos will "learn" driving habits and capabilities, even monitoring the driver's health to adjust powertain, steering, suspension and braking systems for optimal safety, comfort and enjoyment, the company claims.

The driver-orientated feel continues inside where a stylish and innovative decor brings clean and simple surfaces to the fore. Hosting an array of interactive infotainment and assistance technologies, Evos is said to "embrace the driver in a ‘personal cloud'". Some functionality even extends to rear-seat passengers via wireless connectivity which said to offer a "more personal ownership experience".

"The Ford Evos Concept unites three key elements which are at the core of our One Ford global product strategy: outstanding design, smart technologies and fuel economy leadership," said Ford's global head of product development, Derrick Kuzak.

"With its compelling design and innovative technology experience, this is a clear demonstration of the exciting vision we have for the Ford brand. While you will never see this car on the road, the next generation of Ford products around the world will display many of the distinctive design ideas and advanced technologies it showcases."

Promising Evos isn't just another concept, Ford told media at the Frankfurt unveil we can expect to see more of the coupe in just over four months time. Stay tuned…
