A bespoke, fastback coupe dubbed Evos will steal the limelight at the Ford stage of next month's Frankfurt motor show.
Representing what its creators say is the "ultimate expression of Ford's new global design language", the four-door, four-seat C-segment coupe aims to explore future powertrain and vehicle technologies, while also gauging public opinion.
Evos' exterior design is said to promote a fun-to-drive spirit, the new fascia and trapezoidal grille mounted higher to promote a "confident, more premium look". Bold, technical shapes, especially those of the headlamps and grille are among key elements Ford says will be applied to future models.
Sculptured flanks, sweeping roofline and a high level of attention to detail give Evos a taut, masculine character Ford says is usually typical to more expensive vehicles, but will soon become fundamental to the shape of its "coherent family of distinctive vehicles".
The driver-orientated interior promises to be stylish and innovative with clean and simple surfaces hosting an array of interactive infotainment and assistance technologies that embrace the driver in a 'personal cloud', with some functionality extending to rear-seat passengers. Information from this 'cloud' can be enabled to connect wirelessly with the driver's home and office for a more personal ownership experience.
Not forgetting the car's purpose, Ford says Evos will "redefine the driving experience" with tuning, handling and performance catered not only to the driver but to road and weather conditions as well. Evos will "learn" driving habits and capabilities, even monitoring the driver's health to adjust powertain, steering, suspension and braking systems for optimal safety, comfort and enjoyment.
Complementing Evos technology, a lithium-ion plug-in hybrid powertrain works in conjunction with or independently of a petrol engine to maximise efficiency. Typically, the system runs in all-electric mode before switching to charge-sustaining hybrid mode when required. Range is estimated at up to 800km.
"The Ford Evos Concept unites three key elements which are at the core of our One Ford global product strategy: outstanding design, smart technologies and fuel economy leadership," said Ford's global head of product development, Derrick Kuzak.
"With its compelling design and innovative technology experience, this is a clear demonstration of the exciting vision we have for the Ford brand. While you will never see this car on the road, the next generation of Ford products around the world will display many of the distinctive design ideas and advanced technologies it showcases."
