FRANKFURT MOTOR SHOW: JLR's SVO showcases SPECTRE vehicles

Special Vehicle Operations department reveals cars for Bond... and the villains

The latest instalment of the legendary James Bond franchise is due to be released worldwide in October this year.

To celebrate, Jaguar Land Rover's Special Vehicle Operations, established in June 2014, revealed its own Bond stars in Frankfurt.

SVO, as well as Jaguar and Land Rover design teams, worked closely with the film-makers to ensure its products delivered appropriate wow factor... and it's safe to say they pulled it off with the assembled triumvirate.

Aping the legendary XJ220 of the 1990s, the Jaguar C-X75 is the leading SPECTRE machine. The hybrid supercar was first shown at the 2010 Paris Motor Show with gas-turbine engines. Williams Grand Prix Engineering has been involved in its change to SPECTRE specification. C-X75 employs a carbon-fibre chassis and has a twin-charged 1.6 petrol engine with 375kW plus two electric donks that add another 300kW combined. It's all wheel drive and has a seven speed automated manual transmission. The manufacturer and its engineering consultant make claims of 320km/h top speed, with 100km/h arriving in less than three seconds. Its crowning film moment involves a chase through the streets of Rome.

Additionally, a brace of modified Land Rover Defenders is used in the film, with one on display in Frankfurt. In stark black with imposing body armour and numerous spotlights, the Defenders ride on incredible 37-inch off-road tyres and were used on-location in Austria during a snow-covered road chase scene.

Joining the Defenders was a similarly-darkened Range Rover Sport SVR, the most powerful Range Rover ever.

"For Jaguar Land Rover to once again be a part of the iconic vehicle line ups in one of the most celebrated film franchises in the world represents a proud moment for us.   It's an incredible opportunity to showcase production and concept cars alike and we look forward to continuing this relationship well into the future," explained John Edwards, Managing Director of Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations.

Assembled guests were wowed by SPECTRE cast members Naomie Harris and David Bautista (whose character Hinx drives the C-X75) on the night. Fans of Bond can also look forward to behind the scenes content from Jaguar and Land Rover in the lead-up to the film's debut.
