Porsche launched a new halo sports model at the Frankfurt motor show, though not in a traditional sense.
The Stuttgart firm unveiled its third-generation Cayenne Turbo SUV overnight, and the figures are impressive.
Due to arrive in Australian showrooms mid-2018, the high-riding flagship’s twin-turbo petrol V8 has been ratcheted up to 404kW and 770Nm, a 22kW/20Nm bump on the predecessor.
Sending drive to all four wheels via an eight-speed transmission, the Turbo is said to clip the 0-100km/h ticket in 4.1 seconds – 3.9 seconds if the Sport Chrono box has been ticked from the optional extras pamphlet. A top speed of 286km/h is claimed.
“The increased driving dynamics are based on the combination of innovative technologies, such as active aerodynamics including roof spoiler, controlled three-chamber air suspension, mixed tyre sizes and the new high-performance aero brake,” Porsche says.
The Cayenne supports its impressive firepower with a new 48-volt electrical system with active roll stabilisation that is familiar with sister brand Audi’s SQ7. The technology brings active roll stabilisation and optional rear-wheel steering, for greater body control and cornering precision.
Furthermore, the Cayenne rides on active shock absorbers and six-stage height-adjustable suspension and 21-inch alloys shod with 285/40 rubber up front and 315/35 at the rear.
Big ticket items permeate the interior, too, thanks to a 710-Watt Bose surround sound system, sports seats with 18-way electric adjustment, heating and integrated headrests.
Australian price and specification of the Cayenne Turbo will be revealed closer to the vehicle’s launch mid-2018, where it will arrive alongside the updated Cayenne and Cayenne S. Porsche has opened the order books for all three variants.
