Free defensive driving course up for grabs at Easter Bathurst

Guess the fastest lap time by an F3 racer at this year's Easter Bathurst weekend and Korean tyre maker Kumho will provide a free defensive driving course

With a field of at least 18 Formula Three cars lining up on the starting grid, this year’s Easter Bathurst weekend is expected to see the fastest-ever recorded race lap of the famous six-kilometre circuit.

The F3 cars will be making their first appearance at Bathurst, which is best known for its epic touring car battles.

To recognise the event, Kumho Tyres is conducting a competition in which the contestant who guesses the fastest F3 lap time will win free defensive driving course.

"Formula Three is a spectacle at any circuit and for the open wheeled, winged category to be competing at Australia's most famous circuit is an extremely exciting prospect," said the national training manager at Kumho Tyres Australia, David Basha.

"We are excited about giving away a driving course to whoever can guess the quickest time of the weekend," Basha said.

The official record for the fastest race lap belongs to Jamie Whincup, who recorded 2:08.4651 in his Ford BF Falcon in 2007.

The fastest official Bathurst practice lap of 2:06.8012 was recorded by Craig Lowndes driving a Holden Commodore V8 in the final session before the 2010 Bathurst 1000 – which he won.

Unofficially though, the fastest outright Bathurst lap to date was recorded by F1 driver Jenson Button, driving an F1 McLaren around the circuit in 1:48 in 2011.

Kumho Tyres was founded in 1960, and has grown to become one of the top ten tyres companies in the world, with an annual production of more than 68 million tyres. It caters for high performance, passenger, sports utility and recreational vehicles, as well as light trucks, heavy truck and buses, industrial, agricultural, mining and construction vehicles as well as aircraft.
