If you live in Victoria and are learning to drive, you can now take advantage of one free driving lesson, courtesy of a new program funded by the Victorian government.
Learners in Vic are being offered a free 60-minute in-car session, where the learner – and their fully-licenced supervisor – will get taught all the basics by an accredited driving instructor.
And, as with most free schemes, there’s a few catches.

Learners eligible to participate must be aged between 16 and 19, and must have completed 10 to 30 hours of driving practice in their log-book.
The learner’s fully-licenced supervisor must also be present for the free one-hour lesson, which is tipped to help them ‘gain the confidence to support their learners to complete their 120 hours’.
It’s also aimed at helping around 15,000 families with cost of living pressures, as well as the cost of learning to drive, according to Melissa Horne, minister for Roads and Road Safety.
“A single professional lesson can cost up to $100 – we’re putting that money back in the pockets of busy families and giving young Victorians the skills they need to be safe on the road,” said Ms Horne.
“Teaching your kid to drive is a right of passage – but it also comes with worries. Every parent wants to make sure that their kids will be safe when they hop behind the wheel, and this free lesson will help them do just that.”
