The new BMW Z4 roadster has only been available in Australia since May, but the Bavarian brand will soon release an upgraded range-topper that will be quicker and more powerful than before.
Better still, it won’t cost any more than it already does.
Those who purchased the top-spec convertible when it arrived here just over six months ago might’ve jumped the gun, with news that the MY20 BMW Z4 M40i will be a fair bit quicker to hit triple figures.
Now coming close to the four-seconds mark, BMW claims the updated Z4 M40i can do the 0-100km/h boogie in just 4.1 seconds (previously 4.5).
That’s thanks to a power increase of 35kW (now 285kW/500Nm), making it more powerful than its mechanical twin, the Toyota Supra, which it shares its 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six petrol engine.
Of course, those new outputs also align the flagship Z4 with other models in the brand’s M Performance line-up, including the M340i xDrive, X3 M40i and X4 M40i.
The top-spec Bavarian sports car is due to arrive in showrooms by April 2020 and will keep its current price tag of $124,900 before on-road costs.
Entry into the Z4 range remains the sDrive 20i, which is priced at $84,900 plus ORCs (the same price as the six-only Supra) and powered by a 145kW/320Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder.
The mid-spec Z4 sDrive 30i is priced at $104,900 plus ORCs and uses a higher-output (190kW/400Nm) version of the same engine.
