Participating in the frenzy of enhanced-value offerings throughout the new-car industry, Land Rover has just expanded its almost-driveaway offer (almost, because the pricing deal does not remove dealer delivery costs) on Freelander 2 by adding three years of free servicing to vehicles sold during March 2009.
The offer covers all Freelander 2 models and is part of a value-added push by Land Rover that also embraces Range Rover Sport (three years or 100,000km of free servicing on vehicles sold until the end of March) and Discovery 3 (HSE-based "Technology and Bright Pack" that adds value to the tune of $9,750).
The Freelander 2 is available with two Volvo-derived transverse powerplants: an inline 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel, or a six-cylinder 3.2-litre petrol. The X-Trail size SUV uses a Haldex clutch actuated all-wheel-drive system to provide some degree of off-road ability.
The iconic British brand which, along with Jaguar, is now owned by the Indian Tata group, must be doing something right because it claims to be one of the few car-makers without any residual 2008 stock left to sell in Australia.
Still, Land Rover is not bucking local sales trends with year-to-date sales down by 31 per cent. The Australian new-car market overall is down by about 20 per cent compared with the same period in 2008.
