Volvo and fellow Swedish corporate citizen, SimBin, have collaborated on a game that can be downloaded from Volvo's international website and played on PC.
We first mentioned 'Volvo - the Game' in last week's CN Confidential (more here). The game has now been officially launched and can be obtained here.
Virtual Volvos appearing in the game include the S60 Concept (see our earlier report here), the C30 Green Racer (pictured) currently participating in the Swedish Touring Car Championship and the Volvo 240 Turbo like the one that propelled Robbie Francevic to victory in the Australian Touring Car Championship in 1986. Volvo provided SimBin with a real 240 Turbo, in order for the game developer to reproduce the car's interior and exhaust notes for the game.
As with other computer games based around motor racing, 'Volvo - The Game' offers a choice of tracks, although the choice here is limited to two: the Gothenburg Eco Drive Arena in Sweden, and Chayaka in the Ukraine. The game allows players three different skill levels, novice, semi-pro and pro. Ideally, the game (which is a 570MB download), should be installed and played on a PC equipped with a steering wheel and pedals.
"When Volvo Cars asked us if we were able to develop a Volvo racing game for PC, suitable for a wide audience and including the new S60 Concept car, we picked up on the challenge straight away," says SimBin Studios CEO, Henrik Roos. "Two Swedish brands that join forces sounded like a perfect match to us".
SimBin has some experience developing motorsport-based computer games, having brought the following titles to market: 'GTR - The FIA GT Racing Game', 'GT Legends', 'GTR 2 - The FIA GT Racing Game', 'RACE - The WTCC Game', 'RACE 07 - The WTCC Game', 'GTR Evolution' and 'STCC The Game'.
Volvo will monitor results uploaded by players to the company's website and award prizes to winners.
